stormy new york

i landed in new york on a cold, rainy day of october, turned on the tv and found out a massive storm was approaching the city. i hadn't heard of sandy before, and suddenly it was all everyone was talking about. we walked around the windy, rainy city. the night of the storm my mother, my sister and i stayed in our hotel room and watched the news while the building seemed to be pitching (luckily we still had power). the next morning we listened to the whole taylor swift album and danced around and i managed to be a spooky zombie prom queen on halloween night. we went downtown to see how bad the storm had been and the atmosphere was so strange, just tons of people carrying suitcases going uptown and trying to catch a cab. it was a weird trip.

laurence anyways

this movie will change your life. it is so beautiful and real and true and filled with pretty metaphors that i can't even find the right words to describe it: incredibly amazing, astonishing, full of love, wonderful, exciting, poetic, delicate, impressive, soft, raw, honest, simply beautiful.
xavier dolan (born 1989 by the way) directed and played the leading part in one of my favorite movies, "j'ai tué ma mère" ("i killed my mother") a few years ago and i was so excited to go see "laurence anyways" when it came out. i went to the theater the first day and i wasn't disappointed a bit, i was amazed. the story is heart-breaking:  fred and laurence are in love and best friends at the same time but laurence realizes he's been living in a lie for too long and admits to his girlfriend he really is a woman inside. but it's not the story of a guy who decides to become a woman: it's a story of love.
this movie changed my vision of love, relationships, identity, sexual orientation and gender. it is literally the best thing ever. everything in this movie makes me want to cry and laugh at the same time and also take pictures because it is aestetically perfect. i love it so much! just thinking about this movie makes me want to watch it again and again and again.
